In early Spring of 2022, the author boarded a 52-foot sailboat to cross the Atlantic with a close friend and a captain and sailor he did not know.

Sailing adventure stories and memoirs have been with us for a long time and continue to fascinate the general public as well as those involved in the sport. There are over 4 million active sailors in the U.S. and the numbers are growing. A great many of them have thought or dreamed about sailing across an ocean, even if they would not really consider doing it themselves, they imagine what it would be like. This book is for them and for the many non-sailors who wonder about the experience. What is it like for an ordinary person, curious, but also afraid of what the ocean may offer beyond the horizon, to take the decisive leap. And why consider crossing an ocean in the first place?
